I read this book and still can't stop thinking of it-- it's explicit but it wasn't the intimate scenes that made this book -- but the characters. Elle is a woman who doesn't want attachments preferring quick physical encounters. She counts as a way of coping and calming--making her keep a distance.
Dan is someone unusual he sparks her interest and they begin a torrid affair on her terms. Like with all things it doesn't end up the way she planned and she has to decide if meeting her nightmares head on is worth the power of a healthy relationship. Elle is very difficult to like because she is so closed off-- but you can't help wanting to see her find happiness. Dan is a compelling strong character-- not over the top but able to match Elle in interest, he finds himself drawn to her and refuses to give up on her-- for that alone it is worth reading.
Elle has a compelling and tragic secret-- and I find her ability to fight for forgiveness admirable-- even when as a reader I could not forgive such betrayal- maybe that says something about me or the fact the author brings to Elle a depth of compassion which is heart wrenching and admirable. This was very well done and it will stay with me for a long while.

Such a sad, sad story! Elle is a complicated woman who is free with her body but not with her heart. We find out little by little about Elle's past, only as much as Dan gets her to reveal. Each time Dan is able to get Elle to open up a part of herself that she has never shared before, then she pushes him away. Elle is very intelligent with Rainman abilities to count items which helps her focus on anything besides her inner pain, just like sex is a distraction for her heartbreak.
Her mother certainly doesn't help as she puts most of the blame on Elle. I had many moments in the book that made me sigh, mainly from Dan's sweetness. This is the first time Elle offers him a real kiss. And the man is Jack, the young tattooed man from the book Strangers! I am really enjoying this author and her broken, complex female characters! Something personal and aching to be profound. Sometimes, you walk away. You find a way to make it work. Paige has led a relatively dull existence.
After divorcing her high school beau and remaining friends with benefits , having a strained relationship with her father, and hoping to be like anyone but her flighty mother, she is intrigued by a letter inadvertently left in her box. She gets caught up in the fantasy of the letters as well as her sexy neighbor, who appears to have been the intended recipient. She finds a sense of fulfillment and a more dominant side of her personality as a result, which starts to spill into her work life and relationship with her boss. Hart never surprises me with the envelope pushing. While "Switch" was not nearly as excellent as some of her earlier work, it is still a really good novel, mixing eroticism with deep emotion and insight into the protagonist and her motivations.
You just never know what alley she will turn down, as the stories take on a life of their own and she never disappoints. After putting it aside for a few months, I picked it up and read it in a day. I liked the surprise ending - it came out of left field for me. Some reviewers seem to be upset that this book isn't smuttier. Paige and I might not be friends if she were a real person -- we're very different -- but I didn't have trouble relating to her or caring about her journey.
I found the novel engaging and well-written throughout, with only some very minor editing issues.

- Barefoot Beaches;
The denouement didn't surprise me -- I'm not sure if it was meant to -- but it didn't let me down, either. Switch is about the psychology of power; about the ways we let other people define us, and how that can be limiting or empowering; and about the intricacy of desire. If you're open to a novel that goes beyond titillation to explore all these areas, then I recommend it. When I read what this was about, I thought finally, a book about a woman being the dominant one instead of the man. Not the case at all. The entire book is about a woman whose ex is obsessed with her, and how she keeps getting notes in her mail box that aren't meant for her, but are notes telling someone what to do, like tell yourself you are beautiful today.
You never find out who is actually writing the notes, and as for any kind of romance, it just fizzles. Not worth the read. Feedback If you need help or have a question for Customer Service, contact us. Would you like to report poor quality or formatting in this book? How to write a great review.
